Requirements
There are 3 tests to pass to become
an instructor.
PART 1
The A.D.I Theory Test.
Part 1 is an I.T based theory test.
The theory test comprises of one hundred
multiple-choice questions and each
question has a choice of four answers
with only one being correct. The pass
mark is 85% so the test requires a
high standard of knowledge. It is
banded into for main areas and you
must achieve a minimum of 80% in each
band. You have 90 minutes to complete
the test.
The A.D.I Hazard Perception Test.
The Hazard Perception Test consists
of fourteen video clips, featuring
various types of hazards. When you
see a hazard developing you respond
by pressing the mouse button and the
quicker you see and respond to the
hazard the higher your score. You
can score a maximum of 5 marks on
each hazard and there are fifteen
developing hazards in the fourteen
clips. The pass mark is 57 out of
75. Both tests are taken on the same
day with a small break between the
two. The result of the test will be
given before leaving the test centre.
You are able to take this test as
many times as you need.
PART 2
The A.D.I. test of driving ability
This is a practical test of you driving
ability. At the start of the test
your eyesight will be tested, you
must be able to read a number plate
at a distance of 27.5m(90ft). The
practical test is an advanced test
of a very high standard, you must
have a thorough knowledge of all the
principles of good driving and road
safety you must.
Expert handling of the controls.
Use of correct road procedure.
Anticipation of the actions
of other road users and taking appropriate
action
Good judgement of speed, distance
and timing
Consideration for the convenience
and safety of other road users.
The route for the test will take
in all types of roads and traffic
conditions. You will be asked to do
several different manoeuvres including
an emergency stop. Your test will
last for approximately an hour and
during this time you can make a total
of six minor mistakes. Your result
is given to you at the end of the
test, which you can have three attempts
at.
One of the key features of training
with Bell is that once you have completed
and passed Part 2 you can start work
as a trainee, this means you can earn
as much as a qualified A.D.I and this
can be done in 10 weeks of starting
the course.
PART 3
The A.D.I. Instructional ability
test.
This is a practical test of your
ability to instruct. The objective
of this test is to assess the quality
of your instruction and that you can
pass this information on to your pupils.
The examiner plays two different pupils
on the test, one as a novice and one
near test standard.
There are currently 10 pre set tests,
the examiner picks one. The examiner
will expect to see the different techniques
you use to deal with pupils of different
abilities. They may also play pupils
with very different personalities.
The test usually takes 1 hour, ½
an hour for each pupil. You will be
given a grade for each pupil on a
scale of 1 to 6 with 4 and above being
a pass, but you must score at least
4 for each pupil. You are only allowed
3 attempts and you will be given the
result at the end of the test.
