Barnet is a suburban area, the 1st known settlement was in the twelfth century. Barnet is an abbreviation of its name High Barnet or Chipping Barnet.
Barnet is on the historic Great North Road, which in days gone by had 150 stagecoaches passing through everyday. Today the stagecoaches may have gone but Barnet is just as busy as then if not more so.

Enfield Town used to be a small market town but as Greater London has grown, Enfield Town and its surroundings have become a residential suburb, with fast transport links into central London. In 2007 Enfield completed a major redevelopment project that included new road layouts.
Enfield also has many different means of transport into London to ease congestion on the roads, as a learner taking Driving Lessons in this area you will find lots of different conditions to deal with.

Harlow is a former new town. The town is close to the M11 motorway and is part of the London commuter belt. There has been a settlement on the site way back to the Iron Age. New towns were built after world war 2 to ease overcrowding in London. Harlow has two main line railway stations and is close to Stansted airport.
Harlow is an excellent place to take Driving Lessons and has a whole host of major roads to hone your skills as your confidence grows.

Harrow was formed in 1934 when 3 former areas were all merged together. As it is located near the green belt there are many wide-open roads. In 2009 the borough voted unanimously at a full council meeting to support in principle the proposed North and West London Light railway, which would ease congestion in the city centre, Harrow is near 3 motorways A40/M40, M25 and M1 has several train stations and numerous bus routes even with all this transport it still remains a very busy place to take your Driving Lessons.

Hatfield
Having Saxon origins when it was known as Hetfelle and then became Haethfeld around 970. Hatfield house has been on the site for over 400 years and the town grew up outside the gates of the historic building. In the 1930 dehaviland airfield and factory was opened, later in the 1960 it was taken over by Hawker Siddeley, which merged into British Aerospace in 1978. The site closed in 1993. The site now has De Havilland Campus University as part of the university of Hertfordshire.

Hayes
Hayes is suburban development but it started out as a industrial area, to which residential districts built up later. It was mostly agricultural and a brick making area. Some big companies have been located there, including EMI, Nestlé and Heinz.
Hayes being so close to the M4 motorway and the main Uxbridge road passing directly through it is always going to be a busy place to take driving lessons. It has several bus routes and is only 15 to 20 minutes to London Paddington by train.

Hemel Hempstead was developed after World War II it was one of many new towns built to relieve the over crowding in London, there has been a settlement on the site since the 8th century. Hemel Hempstead has a population of around 90,000 people. The first people moved in 1949 and the first factory was erected in 1950.

Hertford
The first mention of Hertford town is in 673AD. The town centre still follows the medieval layout, many of the original timber framed building still remain, but are hidden under later frontage. There are many narrow roads through the old streets and Hertford has always suffered from busy roads despite the A414 bypass built in the 1960. The nearest motorway is the M11 and the railway takes just over 50 minutes to London Liverpool Street making it a commuter town.

The area to be developed for Milton Keynes was largely farmland and undeveloped villages, but there is evidence of settlement there dating back to the Bronze Age.

When the boundary for Milton Keynes was defined in 1967 there were around 40,000 people living in the towns and villages, now there are over 230,000 people living in the same area.

Ruislip is recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book as Rislepe it now forms part of the London Borough of Hillingdon.

Ruislip has good transport links with five underground stations and two national railway stations. Ruislip is close to Pinner and many of the Pinner test routes cross into Ruislip. This makes it a very busy place for learners it has many suitable roads for manoeuvres.

Slough grew from a development of small villages along the Great West Road, the growth accelerated with the construction of the Great Western Railway. Slough now has a population of over 120,000 people. It is one of the most ethnically diverse towns in the UK.
Slough has a good major road system surrounding it with M4 and M25 close and with being so near to Heathrow Airport it is a very busy place to drive.

St Albans was a settlement of pre-Roman origin named verlamion. It was the first major town on the Roman Road Watling Street. The Roman town of Verulamium (St Albans) was the second largest town in Roman Britain after Londinium.

The city today shows evidence of excavation and buildings from all periods of history.

Stevenage
Stevenage was the first town to be declared a new town after the 2nd world war. A distinctive feature of Stevenage is its urban landscape. It has many roundabouts and few traffic lights so you will get plenty of practice of anticipating other drivers and signalling, also lots of lane changing.

The site has been occupied since 4,000BC. The Romans also had a large settlement in this area. The modern name of the town dates from Anglo-Saxon period. Ware is close to the A10 and A414.

The nearest test centres are Stevenage and Bishop Storford both of which are several miles away.

Watford
Watford was created as an urban district in 1894 & became a municipal borough in 1922. Cassiobury Park is ten minutes from the town centre & has lots of facilities, another of the landmarks is Vicarage Road stadium, which is home to Watford FC & Saracens rugby club. There is also a market in the town centre, which is on Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays. With all this going on the road system is very busy.

Welwyn Garden City was the second garden city and one of the first new towns. It is unique in being both a garden city and a new town. The whole area is surrounded by rural belt, which is in public ownership.

Passed 11 Days after His 17th Birthday
Kane lives in Stanstead Abbotts & took his test on 2nd July at Bishops Stortford test centre. He passed 1st time after having a 25 lesson intensive course with Tina. He enjoyed learning to drive and thought that she was a great instructor. He would recommend us to his friends.
